Dartmouth Castle

Perched in a breathtaking spot in South Devon, Dartmouth Castle is part history lesson, part adventure, and 100% worth the visit. Built way back in 1388, it even inspired the ‘Shipman’ character in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. Over the centuries, it’s stood strong through the Civil War and World War II, quietly keeping watch over the River Dart.

Make a day of it with a riverboat ride from the town quay to the castle. Wander the historic grounds, then reward yourself with a treat at the riverside tearoom. If you’re still feeling energetic, set off on one of the nearby coastal or woodland walks, keeping your eyes peeled for birds and wildlife.

Dartmouth Castle isn’t just a step back in time – it’s a front-row seat to some of the best views and experiences in South Devon.
