Devon’s diverse scenery makes it a fantastic destination for wonderful, soul-lifting winter walking.

Walk the Jurassic Coast

This scenic walk starts in Exmouth town centre, with a gentle 2km stroll along the beach before rising up to Orcombe Point. From here, the route hugs the clifftop, offering sweeping coastal views before winding through lush temperate rainforest and heading down to the pebbly beach at Budleigh Salterton.

This beautiful stretch of coastline is part of the oldest section of the Jurassic Coast, dating back to the Triassic era, with epic cliffs up to 250 million years old. Winter brings a calmer, more atmospheric feel, so you can slow down and really soak it all in.

Bellever Forest and the Lich Way

The Bellever Forest's peaceful woodland walks are set against Dartmoor’s open moorland, making it a great spot for grabbing your walking boots and exploring. Waymarked trails wind through the trees, providing shelter from the elements and seasonal scenery.

Meandering for 2.2 miles, the Bellever Trail takes you past ancient hut circles and stone cists, and with a little luck, you’ll encounter local favourites, the Dartmoor ponies, along the way.

Looking for a longer walk? The Postbridge Trail climbs towards Bellever Tor where you’ll can bask in the panoramic moorland views.

More experienced walkers can make their way to the historic Lich Way, a stunningly eerie bridleway that crosses the moor along an ancient funeral route dating back to the 13th century.

Dart Valley

This peaceful Dart Valley Trail walk is a must for anyone staying in Kingswear or near Dartmoor. Take a water taxi between Kingswear and Dartmouth to enjoy the natural scenery in comfort.

The walk is moderately challenging, with a few uphill stretches, but it's a gentler journey than many other coastal paths. In winter, the quiet riverside setting allows moments of stillness to savour the serenity.

At Greenway, take time to explore Agatha Christie’s former summer home, where she composed several of her novels. The estate also features woodland trails to wander and a café for warming up after your walk.
