Dartmoor View Walks

Lace up your walking boots and grab your thermos because Dartmoor National Park and the surrounding areas are a walkers’ paradise! If you are a master of the map and compass, plot your own route and walk for miles without seeing a soul. Or take one of the popular trails and hop across rivers on well trodden stepping stones, scale ancient tors and visit the sites of ghostly hauntings and legendary, mysterious happenings. The Drake’s trail is a 21 mile cycling and walking route which tracks the western edge of Dartmoor and can be linked with the Granite Way at Okehampton. Most of it is off-road, tracing an old railway line so it’s as flat as a pancake, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll or a two-wheel adventure.

Dartmoor Ponies

If you’re planning a trip to Dartmoor, get ready to meet the locals – the Dartmoor ponies! These charming creatures have been prancing around these parts for centuries and there’s nothing quite like the sight of a herd, casually munching away at sunset with a spectacular backdrop. There are about 1500 ponies, tough as nails, but with the chill vibe of a zen yoga master. You will often spot them, whether you’re cruising by car or strolling on foot. These friendly furry faces add a sprinkle of joy to any Dartmoor visit.
