Padel is a dynamic, low-impact racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, providing a high-energy workout. It is typically played in doubles on a court enclosed by glass walls and a metal fence.
Serving
- The serve is underarm and must bounce once before hitting it.
- The ball must be hit below waist level.
- At least one foot must remain on the ground, and the server’s feet must not touch or cross the service line.
- The serve must land in the opponent’s service box.
- If the ball bounces in the service box and hits the back wall, it is valid. However, if it hits the fence, it is a fault.
- Players get a second serve, similar to tennis.
Scoring
- Scoring follows the tennis system: 15, 30, 40, and game.
- A game must be won by two points.
- A set is won by winning six games with a two-game lead.
In Play
- The ball must bounce before hitting the walls on the opponent’s side.
- Players can hit the ball off the glass walls on their own side.
- The ball can bounce off the fence or walls after bouncing on the opponent’s side.
- The lines are only considered in during the serve.
What is ‘Out’?
- The ball bounces twice on the player’s side.
- The ball hits a player.
- The ball hits the fence or walls before bouncing on the opponent’s side.
- The serve hits the fence directly after landing in the service box.
Safety
- Players must use the safety strap on the racquet during play.
